Lauren Michelle LaCour Newburg
Age 28
Lauren is a Portland artist who works full time as a freelance book illustrator.
Attended the Academy of Art University from 2006 to 2011, recieving a BFA in Illustration
I've been illustrating since I was 10 years old. I started with fairies and sprites and magical things that I would read about in books. I'd imagine what angels and spirits looked like, and I'd draw them. I later became inspired by other people's art, movies, books, any stories I could get my hands on. I knew I wanted to tell stories with art from a very early age. My parents were always very supportive of me. My mother's side of the family are all artists in one form or another. We jokingly call it the "LaCour gene," When a young family member starts showing their creative side.
I'm always excited to be a part of telling great stories. Book illustration and being an artist who does novel covers, comics and children's book illustrations is what I've wanted to do for a long time. It's a great time to be in the industry.
