Scott Lynch is a genius, this book is amazing so far (I'm about halfway through, you know... when the pirates show up.) I definitely want to do some fanart about this book. In the meantime, here's a little warmup today before doing my commissions.

The border collie is unsettled by the depths of the ocean.

It's slower going than I'd like, but still, I'm happy with the colors so far.
Today's sketches. The first are a set of dragons I did while at my son's jiu jitsu class. I'm kind of happy with one of these, and may turn it into an illustration.
Also went to my husband's soccer game, so I got some gestures in. These are always tough cuz the players are actually moving around kinda quick, so I have to try to remember the position and get it down before I forget what they're arms and legs were doing.
And I'm doing spread 2 for the kids book. This one I'm excited about because it's a lot of detail I think will be fun.
Turtle
New painting for the portfolio. I'm not sure how to categorize this one so I will probably put it in both categories. This was a thank you painting for my great Uncle.
I moved back to the mainland about a year and a half ago, maybe more like two years ago. I haven't seen most of my family in 6 years, some of them in 10 years. I really wanted to see them the first chance I got, so I decided to go to my cousin's wedding, if I could raise the money for a plane ticket. I started a gofundme thing for it and asked my family to help out and my great uncle basically bought the whole thing. I was able to see my mom, my brother, my cousins, everyone, it was really emotional for me since so much time had passed and I'm pregnant, so I was getting all of that attention too. I found out my uncle really likes hawaiian stuff, and enjoys the general culture of the islands, so I thought I'd do a special painting for him.
Master study finished
Been working on this Howard Pyle master study for a few days in my spare time, I think I'm gonna leave it for a while. There's some unfinished areas, but I'm happy with it. I LOVE the colors in Howard Pyle paintings, it's hard to find those happy accidents when you're working digitally, it's like we have too much control. This is why I've always liked the palette feature in corel painter, I kind of wish photoshop had something like it, it allows for random color mixing, and discovery of new colors.
More master study progress pics!
I know, it's another one, and it doesn't help that I've been working on this slowly. I'm also doing one of my kids book spreads and I designed a coin for a military friend of mine. It's been a surprisingly productive week considering I also find myself trying to chaperone my son's Battle of the Books team. Crazy life. Good life, but crazy life.
There are actually 3 other designs for the coin but I like this one the most. I don't think he's gonna pick this one though, as it doesn't have many of the images associated with his command.
